I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and we wish you all the very best for the new year.
We’re hoping that the snow stays away so that Edinburgh’s famous Hogmanay celebrations can go off without a hitch this year.
I’m pleased to say that I’ve been invited to the Scottish Chambers of Commerce Annual Dinner taking place in the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on Wednesday 25th November 2009.
I’m honoured to be a guest of Royal Mail at this dinner and look forward to meeting some of the Royal Mail team and other businesses which use Royal Mail’s services.
The dinner has a black tie dress code, so I’ll be opting for the Prince Charlie outfit!
As previously mentioned, I was honoured to be invited to a dinner being held by the CEO and other representatives of PostComm, the Postal Services Regulator in the UK.
The dinner was being held due to the much publicised problems with Royal Mail at the moment. In my understanding, Royal Mail is facing significant financial problems at the moment, caused by a number of factors including lack of modernisation and declining letter volumes. It is also charged with operating a universal service at a ‘below-cost’ rate, where you can send a letter to any part of the UK for a standard flat rate, irrespective of the distance – something we would not have under a purely free-market postal industry.
Attending the dinner were representatives of people involved in the postal industry, representatives of customers (both personal and business) and actual business customers such as ourselves.
I’m pleased to say that while the job facing Royal Mail is significant and challenging, my experience of the people who are at the forefront of keeping it afloat are of a high pedigree doing the very best they can. I sincerely hope that Royal Mail can resolve the issues it is facing and resume normal service as soon as possible.
The recent news that haggis might be English has shaken the Scottish world to it’s core. Or has it?
Personally, I don’t believe a word of it. Everyone knows that the little critters are native to Scotland, indeed you can see them scurrying around the many hills of the highlands. Check out this page if you’re interested in how to catch a haggis.
By the time you’ve caught it (or bought it from the butcher), remember your neeps and tatties…and a bit of prose from our No 1 literary man: Address to a Haggis.

Hi there, just to let you all know that one of our suppliers of pewterware has suffered a fire which has resulted in loss and damage to a number of their lines. Please be aware that this may result in delays to your orders (mainly tankards, hip-flasks and quaichs). We will try to keep you as up to date as possible, stay tuned for more information!
Hello there, just a quick update on some new products we have recently added to our site and also our eBay store.
